About us

History

Our Institute was established in 1970 by the Resolution No. 602 of the Provincial Private Education Service, which ordered the transformation, effective March 16, 1970, of the Advanced English and French courses previously held at the Private Technical School No. 8 “Academia de Lenguas Vivas” in Santa Fe City into the Higher Education Institute for Teacher Training in English and French, assigning it No. 1 in the Registry of Private Higher Education Institutions.

In 1973, through Resolution No. 330 of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Santa Fe, official recognition was granted for the degree programs issued by the Institute.

In 1975, driven by the commitment of a majority group of women, the Civil Association “Higher Education Institute for Teacher Training in English and French No. 1″ was founded with the main objective of providing higher or tertiary language education, promoting professional development, and fostering cultural enrichment for the benefit of students and society.

In 1982, through Order No. 1224, the Provincial Director of Private Education designated the name “Estela Guinle de Cervera” for the Institute, in recognition of the distinguished service and profound teaching vocation of its founder and first director, who dedicated herself to education and culture.

The institute today

At present, our institution is solely committed to the training of English teachers in Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education levels. This program is led by a team of teachers with outstanding academic and human qualities. The teachers of the Institute have completed their studies with university and post-graduate degrees in the country and abroad. They are devoted to the training of future professionals as well as conducting seminars, conferences, workshops and courses for advanced students and graduate teachers.

Since its creation, the Institute has trained teachers who distinguish themselves through their exceptional academic and professional expertise.high academic and professional level. They have experience working in both local and international institutions, as well as in the field of research, and continue to do so.

The institute sets itself apart with an individualised instruction of its students and special focus on guiding each student path, paying attention to their situation and particular interests. Accordingly, we benefit from a tutor who interviews incoming students and provides them with mentoring and educational support through their academic career. The institute also approaches with the proposal of “Peer Tutoring”, in which advanced students help and guide new students.

It is important to highlight that the Institute offers scholarships to those who struggle with paying their tuition. Our aim is to promote a high-quality teaching program; therefore, we strive to facilitate access for those who possess the vocation and motivation to pursue this career.

Another feature of our institute is the continuous development of graduates. To this end, English teachers interested in working at higher education are offered the opportunity to undertake assistantships in the subjects taught at the institute. This allows them to complete their training and specialise in a particular disciplinary field.

On the other hand, the institute organises, during each semester, seminars and workshops on various topics related to the teaching and learning of the foreign language, as well as comprehensive training courses of cultural interest aimed at advanced students of the career and practising teachers.

Our institute also works in cooperation with the Santa Fe Association of English Teachers (ASPI) in the organisation and delivery of specialisation courses for teachers and advanced students of English. By an inter-institutional agreement, the institute is the headquarters of this association.

The teaching course has a wide insertion in the community: it has signed agreements with different local educational and cultural institutions such as the Historical Archive of the Province; Schools in which agreements have been made for reciprocity of teaching activities and knowledge transfers such as Dante Alighieri School,  San José Arquidiocesano School, Nuestra Señora del Calvario School, La Salle Jobson School, Sagrado Corazón School and IPEI School in which our students have carried out and are carrying out their teaching internships: Nuestra Señora del Calvario School: Primary and Secondary Level, La Salle Jobson School: Secondary Level, Sagrado Corazón School: Secondary Level, and IPEI School: Secondary Level.
